Betty Sawyer (1)

Betty is the Community Engagement Coordinator in Access & Diversity at Weber State University. Utilizing her skills as a relator, connector, and builder Betty has been an agent for change in the City of Ogden and Utah for over 40 years. The work and advocacy she has done in the creation of the State's Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  Commission and as Director of the Office of Black Affairs, and locally with health education and k-12 student advocacy demonstrates the value she sees in equity, diversity, and inclusion at all levels. Betty is a past president of the Ogden NAACP, a charter member of the Greater Salt Lake Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., co-founder of Project Success Coalition, a local grassroots non-profit and member of the US Civil Rights Commission, Utah Advisory Council. Betty is inspired by this initiative to create institutional and community change and bring awareness to growing diversity in Ogden. With the support from the city and staff, Betty hopes to identify priority topics from the community and work collectively to implement ideas for change.
